The northern edge of the wall was meant to protect the capital city of China, Beijing. Its northern point runs through the North Pass of the Juyongguan Pass. This location is known as Badaling. This section of the way is over 16 feet deep and over 25 feet high.
Made of rocks and earth with some wood, the Great Wall has protected a lot of people over the centuries. The earliest known record of the Great Wall was in 220 BC. It appears that maintenance is a never ending function of the Great Wall of China
