Ninja swords: How do they differ?

March 10th, 2010

If anyone had asked me a few weeks ago what the difference between samurai swords and ninja swords I would have honestly not had a clue. The wonders of the internet meant that within ten minutes I had enough information to allow me to find out a little about these marvelous swords.

Both of these swords have seen a resurgence in popularity, capturing the imagination of sword collectors and oriental enthusiasts alike.

They have captured the imagination of ancient civilizations along with the morals and values that each of these cultures showed.

Ancient feudal Japan entrusted its defense to an elite group of warriors known as the Samurai. These were highly respected individuals whose values of respect, loyalty, pride and honor were second to none. There intricate relationship to the royalty that they served gave them a very high standing in their community.

In sharp contrast the ninjas were a band of fighters which were highly respected. They considered their weapons to be tools of the trade which were simple and crude, whilst the samurais considered their weapons to be valuables that needed to be respected and valued.

Finding Chinese Antique Furniture

March 10th, 2010

In Western homes, a Chinese bench is an often found antique, since the form of a Chinese bench is uncomplicated. The antique bench from China works well with contemporary pieces and can be used in many ways as well. Benches are often repurposed into use as decorative end tables for a sofa. One frequently finds that benches are used as side tables next to armchairs. Benches are often seen utilized as attractive and functional cocktail tables. Another way to say it is that the same diversity of function may be found between antique Chinese benches found in Western-style homes and the benches at use in China today.

What are the differences between benches and stools? This question has multiple correct answers. The simple answer that seems to make most sense is that a stool is designed for one person, a bench for two or more.

There is something else to be said about benches as well as other Chinese furniture . Not long ago, antique furniture from China was just referred to as furniture that was old. In this culture, old furniture was just that and was not labeled under the heading “treasured antique.” Antique furniture did not receive the same level of care that it would have in other cultures. Keep in mind that the Chinese don’t make use of hardwood flooring very much. Moisture absorption from the skin is more common with indoor furniture; also, since the availability of indoor heating varies more in the East than the West, furniture is exposed to a greater range of temperatures. These observations are true, of course, for all Chinese antique furniture, and they are mentioned here only because many of the old benches available in the West have repairs and evidence of moisture having been absorbed through the legs. It is common to find evidence of repairs in most pieces of Chinese furniture.

Choosing a samurai sword….

March 9th, 2010

I have always asked myself what the difference is between a ninja sword and a japanese samurai sword, so I decided to carry out a bit of research on both and finally solve the mystery.

These two swords seem to be extremely popular for both weapon collectors and oriental enthusiasts alike.

They have captured the imagination of ancient civilizations along with the morals and ideals that each of these cultures showed.

The samurai fighters were entrusted with serving the royal family, which made them very feared in their community. These individuals lived on a strict code of honor, valor, pride and respect which made them an elite fighting force.

The ninjas however were a band of warriors that were highly feared, these individuals were perfectionists in deception and imitation and their swords matched the virtues of their owners. Whilst Samurai swords were weapons which were feared and treated as valuables the Ninjas considered their swords to be useful and disposable.
