Is a cheek piercing suppose to go inside your cheek during the healing process?
November 17th, 2009 | by admin |It is my 5th day of healing and even though all is fine, today my piercing is sinking into my cheek. Oddly, the swelling of my cheek has gone down yet the earring is still going into my cheek. Is this anything to fret about right now or should I request a longer ring to replace my current one?
Your piercing could just be nesting (which is normal, but doesn’t usually happen that fast) or it could be swelling over your jewelry. Do your cheeks look dimpled already? If they do, it sounds like the jewelry might be too short. I would recommend visiting your piercer and letting them take a look at it – cheeks take a ridiculously long time to heal, and it’s better to be safe than sorry. If the bar is too short, your cheek can swell over it and "eat" the ball on the outside or the flatback on the inside. This can be very painful and prolong your heal time.
If you can’t visit your piercer right away, take some ibuprofen and ice your face to reduce the swelling. Slushies and milkshakes work too.
EDIT: Mouthwash with alcohol is a big no-no, since the alcohol is far too harsh and will irritate your piercings. Go for alcohol-free mouthwash like Biotene or Tom’s of Maine.

You might want to ask for a longer one…but if your really concerned about it go back and talk to the place that pierced it. Thats their job…to pierce and to answer your questions. Good luck

I have both my dimples pierced
. Its natural to a point, your cheeks are going to swell but your piercings shouldnt be sinking in. If they are it could be due to 2 main things. The first is your not keeping your mouth clean using mouthwash preferably with alcohol after each meal or drink thats not water. Or you just got a piece of jewelery 2 short for the first month or so. So if you’re keeping your mouth clean, then you’ll need some longer jewelery and in about 2 weeks to a month your cheeks should be perfect, that is if you keep your mouth clean. i hope this helps

thats called nesting, and longer jewelry should help prevent that from happening.
[fyi: the girl who said mouthwash with alcohol, do the opposite, rinse with mouthwash with NO alcohol]
