Hello,
the questions you ask are good questions. Many so-called "believers" today are attracted to Christianity by signs and wonders.
God's word the Bible has made it easy for unsaved people to follow false gospels such as those that revolve around so-called miracle healing.
While it was true that during the time that the Bible was being written God was performing such miracles of healing through his apostles and disciples; however, these were done as pictures or symbols of the spiritual healing that takes place when someone is reconciled to God and has found forgiveness of sins through the atoning work of Christ.
When we read about the "laying on of hands" in the Bible, we are to look at this as the spiritual work of God through prayer and the preaching of the Gospel by His disciples. Everyone who is a true believer; one of God's elect, is a disciple; and when they faithfully share the gospel to unsaved people, they are performing the act of "laying on of hands" or witnessing for Christ. Sadly, many churches today have adopted this to mean literally and wrongly teach that by physically putting ones hands on and praying in the name of Jesus that a person can be saved or healed of some ailment.
The Bible teaches that Satan will, in the last days (and these are the last days); use many signs and wonders to deceive people into following him instead of the true Christ. Because Christ performed many miracles during His time to show himself as God, Satan, who masquerades as an angel of light (2 Cor.11:14) is loose and breaking the super natural to deceive people into thinking he is Christ (Mt.24:24). What is terrible is that God is sending a strong delusion to the unsaved to believe a lie (2 Thes.2:11-12).
Hope this helps.
Let us pray for God's mercy on our souls and not worry about the temperal things like our bodies.
References :
The Bible (Authorized King James version)

as a Pagan\Wiccan i study such healing practices, I do not believe in the christian god, but many gods and goddesses;. i use reiki to heal wounds (sprains, slight brakes, ect...) reiki is your own energy, not coming from any god or goddess. but from within you. which is the main difference, in christianity, they pray to their god to let his power go through them and heal the sick (in which they inadvertantly are using their own spirits to heal the person without their knowledge, they think that God did it.) in the "non-god" approch we recognize that we are using our own spirit or aura to heal the person.
References :
I have witnessed first hand a healing thought prayer and laying on of hands. A good friend of mine had back problems for many years, one day while in church we gathered together and prayed for healing for her back, she said that her back got hot and she could feel something happening from that time onward she has been pain free it is like the disks in her back were never ruptured now medicine can't explain it .Doctors don't understand it .
References :
there are many spiritual forces at work. don't mess lightly with any of them. and about those who heal by the power of God, if that is a gift He has given then that is wonderful, but it does not come by the laying of hands prayer. Jesus said this kind only comes by prayer and fasting. you can't just forthwith walk up to the sick and say in the name of Jesus be healed! no Jesus when He ascended said to His disciples behold i give you power over the enemy. Jesus had all power, over nature, over life, death, over everything and everyone. but through His name we are promised victory over the enemy. now don't be confused, healing is a gift yes, but i would bet there is hardly a person alive today who has the gift by the holy Spirit. the prophets of old had power over the forces of nature because God gave dominion to adam. but we who are renewed by Jesus - the last adam, have been given dominion over the enemy. the apostles were called of Christ Himself and were given incredible powers because they bore the faith, theirs was a sign that God the Spirit had been given back to man.

as for the non-God method. yes there is a way as rare as the Godly way, but it is of witchcraft which is considered iniquity - working rebellion in the eyes of God. to do this is to sneak into God's garden and pluck the fruit of His vineyard for yourself and give Him no thanks. i would urge anyone to not hand themselves over to the powers of darkness. miracles are not to be trusted, this is why even the devil can deceive with powerful signs. the Lord Jesus alone is to be trusted. for that power comes with authority and is a gift to God's righteous ones.
References :
In practice, you'll find more method in energy healing. Reiki is the most common form of this but there are methods that anyone can learn without having to be initiated, and, more commonly, pay lots of money. I've wondered the same thing myself and am glad that you are thinking in this direction. I'm not Christian but I'll try to answer your question in the way I think (most) Christians would. God is, obviously, not working through energy healers who aren't believers/Christians. They're working through some other force that is, by default, evil because it's not from God. On the other hand, some believers might say the power does come from God but that still leaves the question of how non-believers are able to submit to said power.

Apparently, I don't believe this as I have been privileged enough to have worked with both "laying on of hands" and "energy work," as I am an former believer. That being said, the power is pretty much the same when you're working both individually, and in groups. Actually, from my experience, the power is generally much more focused and targeted with energy work.

For an easily available book mostly on energy manipulation/control that can be used for healing, check out the book referenced below.
References :
The Psychic Vampire Codex: A Manual of Magick and Energy Work by Michelle Bellanger

Every healing must glorify Jesus Christ.

If it does not, then it isn't from God (and is also possibly quite phony).

The truth is that Jesus is God.

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved, no matter what!
